excavated in order to level the lot and render it suitable for

building purposes, no steps have hitherto been taken by the purchasers towards developing it and it is believed that they

would be willing to surrender it to Government on obtaining a

refund of all their payments plus interest, say $53,000. The pro-

-posed extension of the Recreation Ground which is much needed

amounts to 3.77 acres (area coloured green) whilst a further area, at present useless, extending to the nullah which is to be divert- -ed and amounting to 1.36 acres, will be rendered available. The

total area added will thus amount to 5.13 acres.

lots must be resumed in whole or in part:-

Marine Lot 111 (portion) 7,140 square feet at

83.

Apart from improving the access to Wongheichong Valley, the proposed road will improve communications with a large area of land behind Wongneichong Village which is suitable for building purposes and where, it is confidently anticipated many of the Portuguese and other residents of the humbler class who have been crowded out of the central district of the City by the influx of Chinese from the neighbouring province of China, will find accomodation. There is also at present before me a proposal to extend tramway com unication over the range of hills to the south of Wongne ichong Village in order to develop the south side of the Island, for which the proposed road will be of the greatest possible value and its construction is therefore of considerable importance.
